After we came home from Hollyfest and rested a little bit, it was time for trick-or-treating!! Last year we went with some friends who had older kids and we just held Ella while their kids went up to the houses so this year was so fun that she was really able to do it!
She's ready to go!
We had a "halloween parade" at the entrance of our neighborhood and we met up with our neighbors to go trick-or-treating with them - here are Ella and Caleb. He was a hersheys bar and his baby sister was a marshmellow and parents were graham crackers, so together they were a s'more!
Walking with her candy bucket, she's got the swing of it!
The first house we decided to stop at to trick-or-treat, the lady was in the driveway and dressed up harmlessly enough as batgirl. She said her husband had the candy, and called into the house "come on Meat Man, we've got a trick-or-treater." Calling him Meat Man should've tipped us off. Anyway, Meat Man comes out in a very scary costume, some kind of bloody chef or something, I can't really say. But he was really nice and held the candy basket out for Ella to walk up to him and take a piece. She walks right up with her bucket and at the last minute does an about-face and pivots away from him like 'no way am I getting candy from this guy' - it was hysterical. Steve got it on camera on our video camera (not my regular camera), so I am hoping we'll be able to make a little clip of it, because her expression and the way she turned away from him at the last minute were just priceless. And that was her first official trick-or-treat house :).
After that she had an easier time of it, and even said "trick-or-treat" at a house or 2, although mostly she was silent and just held her bucket out for candy. She definitely got the hang of it and her and Caleb would follow each other up to the doors and seemed to be pretty into it.

Tinkerbell getting verrry sleepy
So her first official trick-or-treating experience was a complete success! She was completely exhausted by the end of the night and went to bed right at 8pm. With the change in clocks we got an extra hour of sleep and she slept right through the extra hour.
It's just so awesome how much fun it is getting to experience things through Ella's eyes and there is really nothing better than making special memories with her, even if she's too little to remember them for now :).

Ella was a really, really cute Tinkerbell and Caleb looked like a "chocolatey" (sic) candy bar. Who ate all the candy?
Dad
What joy she is!
